APRIL MEETING RECAP

The Larry Snyder Memorial Awards Dinner was held April 3rd.  Ed Walsh did another fantastic job with the arrangements.  The food was great and there was plenty of it.  The Spring Lake Manor did a great job.

MAY MEETING

How to catch blues, striped bass and fluke in the Manasquan River - will be presented by Mr. Jeff Merrill at our club’s May 1st meeting. Jeff’s presentation will cover his tips on the best tackle, rigs and lures to use and the best times to fish the Manasquan. His presentation will also focus on his favorite fishing locations in the Manasquan! Jeff writes fishing articles for numerous publications and he is also New Jersey’s representative to the International Game Fish Association.

Jeff’s presentation is very timely since it comes just before the start of the fishing season and it covers the Manasquan, one of our prime fishing locations.  You do not want to miss this presentation!

FISHING REPORTS

Winter Flounder season is open.  Now is the time to get out there.  The fish will be moving out soon so there is only a short opportunity to catch these tasty critters.

Joe Puntasecca gave this report on his winter flounder fishing:  We have been doing well each week with flounder with all keeper fish in the bay and creeks with fish to just over 2 lbs.  All fish are on live sandworms.  Last weekend the 18th we were really dialed into them but due to previous commitments we had to leave them biting but had 13 fish in 45 minutes.

I was out on Saturday with a friend in his aluminum boat.  We had 10 keeper to 2.1 pounds.  Four fish were over 15 1/2 “ and two fish that were just short.  We would have had five more fish in the box if we had had a net.  The well equipped boat was without one.  The secret spot was shared on Saturday with 40 other boats.  I don’t know how they all did but one fellow was pulling fish pretty regularly.  We fish off of the power plant.

Please send me fishing reports at toms6363@comcast.net or call me at 609-296-3774 or on my cell at 732-267-6451.

You can also post fishing reports on the website.

TOURNAMENTS

Frank Richetti has volunteered to handle the clubs weigh in slips.  I think its so he can find out where all the fish are being caught.

FISHING OPPORTUNITIES

I talked to Captain Ken of the MIMI and we are set for Tuesday, May 19th.

He said the Sea Bass fishing should be in full swing by then.  Let me know as soon as possible that you are interested in going.  A $20 deposit will hold your spot.

I have set up another trip on the MIMI with the Sunrise Bay Anglers and that is set for Wednesday, May 27th.  If you are interested let me know.

SALTWATER REGISTRY

We received this from Captain Pete Grimbilas:

To all SW registration meeting members,

Thank you for attending the first NJOA 'round table' meeting on the saltwater registration requirements.  I gather it was both informative and helpful in our quest to bring about consensus on this important issue.

IMPORTANT:  The Reef Rescue Rally has been postponed due to other events occurring around the same time period.  The rally has been rescheduled for June 26 at Clark's Landing Marina in Pt Pleasant Beach.  More information will follow.  We still need auction items and door prizes.  Please ask your organization for a contribution.

IMPORTANT:  The NJOA cordially invites the Saltwater Registration 'Round Table' members to our next council meeting on April 27th.  Our guest speakers will be Republican gubernatorial candidates Asm Richard Merkt (@

7:00) and Chris Christie (@ 9:00).  One of these candidates has a very good chance at becoming our next governor.  So please join us.  Let's hear how they intend to support the outdoor fishing & hunting community.  Bring your questions.

SUNSHINE REPORT

We hope to see Bob Shocody at a meeting soon after his open-heart surgery.  He is doing great.

This from Crabby Jack:

It’s time to get off the meds.  It's also spring trout fishing time too.  We worked out a schedule.   May 25 (My return from the Catskills)  I stop taking meds and immediately start a regimen of blood test to find any problems.  A blood test tests something called Sedimentation rate (shows an active infection).  If a problem comes up I start right back on the antibiotics if not I'm clear. My hopes are high but not too high.  My body don't do anything easy. I'll let you guys know how it is going.
